I have to say, I love to reflect on the travel adventures we’ve had, so when I happened to stumble across the “Pass the Baton Challenge” at lifewithlarissa.com I just had to participate! So here I go, continuing this on and then passing the baton:
1. What’s your favorite language, besides your native language?
I love the french language. There’s just something about it that’s so beautiful!
2. What’s the most interesting thing you’ve eaten, and where did you eat it?
Probably the most interesting thing I’ve eaten while travelling would have to be frogs legs in Vietnam….but a close second would be snails in France. Both delicious by the way!
3. What’s your preferred place to stay: hotel, hostel, or Airbnb? Why?
Definitely Airbnb hands down! Apart from generally being reasonably priced, the main reason is that we have met so many now close friends through staying in Airbnb’s. We’ve found it to be more friendly and personal with an option to get to know your host or have your privacy.
4. What’s the most important thing that you’ve lost while travelling?
I can’t actually say I’ve ever lost anything while traveling thank goodness!
5. How long has your longest trip been?
Many years ago I went to Europe for 6 weeks and traveled around in a campervan with my Godparents. This was a trip I will never forget and the longest time I’ve been away! We generally try and head away for 2 weeks at a time and have more holidays that way. Depending on the country we are traveling to, and how long it takes to fly there, we sometimes prefer to stay longer.
6. What is one city or country that didn’t live up to your expectations? Why?
We visited Vanuatu a few years ago and I have to say it wasn’t what we expected. Think we expected it to be a lot more beautiful than it was (sorry!) It could have also been our accommodation, which definitely didn’t live up to the photos on their website! This was well before we started staying in Airbnb’s.
7. If you had to choose between a 7-day cruise or 7 days at an all-inclusive resort, which would you choose, and why?
I think I’d probably choose the all-inclusive resort! We did this recently in Thailand and it was an amazing experience, eating at some beautiful restaurants, and not worrying about the cost. We also like to be able to base ourselves at a resort and then take off on some day tours and explore. It’s a little less flexible on a cruise, as you obviously need to wait for the cruise ship to arrive in the port.
8. Would you rather see a lot of places, or get to know one place really well?
I’d have to say I’d rather see lots of places. I guess i It really excites me to think how much there is out there to see in the world! We recently did a Summer road trip in Queensland. It was so good to drive around and explore so many different towns that we’d never been to before.
9. What one place would be your ultimate bucket list destination?
This would definitely be the Greek Islands! This has been on my bucket list for a while now and we’re hoping to cross it off next year. I can’t wait!
10. What would be the best travel advice you would give others?
We are always on the look out for holiday deals. This is sometimes even how we choose our next destination. Sign up to emails from travel companies and skim the travel section of the newspaper on the weekend – you can often find amazing deals. We’ve been wanting to go on a cruise, but our son is full fare, which makes it really expensive. We recently picked up a great deal where he is almost free! Needless to say we booked and are looking forward to travelling early next year.

Thanks for reading…and Happy New Year! x
I’m so happy you decided to do this challenge! I love the French language as well; it sounds so beautiful to me. Let’s see – I’ll answer a few questions in the comments. The first trip that made me want to travel more was when I went to Paris. I fell in love with the city and everything about it, and I knew I wanted to explore other places as well. The initial reason I started my travel blog was because my friend suggested I start one. I enjoy sharing my adventures and any tips/advice I can provide, and I also love connecting with other travellers!
Thank you so much Larissa for taking the time to comment! Paris is definitely beautiful! You must be glad your friend suggested you start your travel blog…It’s nice to do something you love!
Such a neet challenge! I adore France and the french language. I would love to live in Paris for a couple of months one day.
Thanks Faye! Yeah I loved this challenge. Paris is such a beautiful city, I hope you manage to cross this off your list one day!
